My first and last traditional matte painting (oils on masonite). Not a great painting but it is a great film that I was very lucky to work on at a young age. The painting needed to match a full scale airbrushed wall built on set so it was OK if it looked painterly. CG water by Morgan Trotter and digitally composited by Todd R Smith. I remember matte painter Christopher Evans loaned me a blending brush made from badger hair that looked like a shaving brush that allowed me to do a lot of the soft blending. On a side note, some horrendous contrast was added to this shot for blu-ray. The contrast here is more representative of what we had in mind.
